Training

What is dual education?

It is a learning model based on the integration of the learning acquired in two equally important environments, the academic and the professional, that act in a coordinated way to offer an educational programme of bachelor’s and master’s degree or continuous training.

In the dual system, the education received in the academic environment is alternated with that received in the professional environment, so that the student becomes a worker in training.

The student receives dual tutoring, from an academic tutor and a tutor in the company or institution, who will accompany them throughout the entire learning process to ensure that they achieve progressive autonomy, an ability to think for themselves and the acquisition of the professional and academic skills planned in the degree.

The relationship between student and company is established through a work contract for the duration of the training.

Why choose dual education?

  • Professional vocation: it allows students to get to know the professional reality of their chosen course
  • Skills acquisition: attainment of skills based on real experiential situations
  • Approach to the labour market: it allows students to get to know the diversity of future professional options
  • Integration in the professional world: work experience is gained while learning
  • Learning through practice: acquisition of skills, knowledge and abilities through action. Learning by doing
  • Improved employability: graduates are better prepared for the needs of the socio-economic environment

How do we do it?

Student – Worker

Dual education entails a change of perspective regarding the young people who until now went into a company to do an internship. (intern)

The student enrolled on a master’s or bachelor’s degree is now also a worker in training. That is to say, someone who learns by doing activities specifically programmed in the company, while at the same time pursuing an academic education at university.

Therefore, it is someone with a work contract (involvement, commitment and responsibility to a company) who is part of the company the same as any other worker, even though they are still learning. They are not an intern…

Tailor-made learning plan

The learning plans that the student will follow in the company are agreed jointly with the academic managers at the university in line with the learning aims for which they are enrolled.

Dual Tutoring

The integration of the education received in the two environments is monitored through dual tutoring tailor-made to each student, carried out by an academic tutor and a company tutor.

The purpose of the tutors is to accompany the learner throughout the training process in order for the learner to acquire progressive autonomy and to develop their capacities for reflection and skills, both professional and academic.

The company tutor is a professional in the company who is responsible for accompanying the student in their training in the company. The tutor works in coordination with the academic tutor to track the student’s progress in their professional development and training.

Both the university and the companies themselves will ensure that company tutors are the most qualified professionals to carry out this work.

The academic tutor is a lecturer who supervises the student’s activities and acts as a bridge between the company and the university. Throughout the training, periodic meetings are organized between the tutors to assess the learner’s progress and establish the necessary actions to cover the entire range of skills necessary for the final degree of the student.

Cooperation between the two tutors is a key factor in ensuring the quality of teaching.
